When Would You Need a Chip Trailer?

What Are the Different Types of Chip Trailers? 

The four most common chip trailers for sale are open-top design, closed top, live floor, drop center, and some that are a combination. You’ll also find chip trailers that have extra features such as an additional doors side configuration. 

You’ll also note that open top chip trailers are most frequently loaded by grinder, chipper or loader. When using an open top, a tarp or cover is required to keep from losing materials during transport. 

Rear-load, closed top chip trailers utilize a rear door where the chipper chute blows the materials into the trailer.

Some chip trailers, called “possum belly trailers” have extra storage capacity at the bottom, while others may feature an extra door that is important for checking the moisture content by taking a sample.
